Akope clinches 2022 Absa Captain’s Bell professional tourney

Legendary Deo Akope clinched the 2022 Absa Captain’s Bell professional event that was held this weekend at the Par-72 Kitante club in Kampala.

Akope had a combined 140 gross during the two days event. On Thursday, he managed 69 and 71 on closing round on Friday.

Akope received a total kitty of Shs10m from sponsors Absa Bank.

Rodell Gaita finished second with after managing a gross of 141 and was followed by Phillip Kasozi who garnered 143 points.

Over 300 members participated in the event that climaxed on Saturday.

Dickson Agaba and Bernadatte Musanabera were crowned as the overall winners in the men and women categories respectively.

Agaba scored 40 stableford points to become the overall winner in the men’s category.

Handicap 26 female golfer Musanabera struck 41 stableford points to topple the rest of the female crop.

The new captain Emmanuel Wamala thanked Absa for sponsoring the event

“I thank Absa Bank Uganda for supporting us most especially MD Mumba Kalifungwa. I take this opportunity to thank the out going executive for the tremendous work.” The Captain’s Bell tournament has been traditionally played since 1908 and it ushers in the new executive of the captain.”
