Interdicted Mulago Hospital Executive Director, Dr Byarugaba Baterana, has been tasked to explain the hospital’s failure to absorb Shs4 billion meant for salaries of new staff.
According to the Auditor General’s report for Financial Year 2020/2021, the money was sent back to the consolidated fund despite an outcry of low staffing at the hospital.
Members of Parliament on the Public Accounts Committee (Central) said the hospital acted irresponsibly when it failed to push the recruiting bodies; the Health Service Commission and Ministry of Public Service to ensure the staff budgeted for are recruited.
The Tororo district Woman MP, Sarah Opendi wondered if the hospital had not foreseen that it had the money coming.
