For several days now, there has been a trending video of a youngster that has been branded Kabaka Mwanga.
In this video a young boy apparently from the village is seen recording a video of himself meant for TikTok.
This boy goes ahead to wonder about the way he has grown so cute.
In short ‘obulungi bumuluma.’
“Ndyeno naye gwe nanyirira, mama nanyirira va kwebyo (I am this side and I now look cute),” he said before exclaiming “Kabaka Mwanga.”
This has now become a popular saying on different social media platforms and in daily life.
This is currently one of the most trending phrases in the country.
“Somewhere somehow @CrystoPanda is looking for ways of doing Kabaka Mwanga. Owaye pandagaali, when are you dropping Kabaka Mwanga?”
We are looking for Kabaka Mwanga. He must know he is trending in the future.”
“For the good of this country, Kabaka Mwanga should be considered as the next governor of Bank of Uganda.”
Many people have even expressed their willingness to help this boy.
One social media user known as Sempijja Stanle expressed his desire to buy the boy a new IPhone.
Others expressed their desire to provide scholastic materials among other things.
And indeed the boy was searched for and brought to Kampala where he’s currently enjoying life.
But who is Kabaka Mwanga?
Born Danieri Basammula-Ekkere Mwanga II Mukasa in 1868, Mwanga was the 31st king (kabaka) of Buganda Kingdom.
He reign3d from 1884 to 1897.
Mwanga II is vividly remembered by many Christians for having taken expelled missionaries.
He also insisted that Christian converts abandon their faith or face death.
He ordered for the death of all those that stood against his rule and the Buganda traditions.
These came to be known as the Uganda martyrs in recent times.
