The National Fellowship of Born-again Pentecostal Churches (NFBPC) will elect it’s new General overseer on Thursday, 16th March at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

Bishop Moses Odongo the current National clerk from Arise and Shine Church Namuwongo is one of the aspirants for the General overseer office

Odongo who will battle Pastor Micheal Kyazze is optimistic that by closure of elections on Thursday, victory will be on his side.

He aims at uniting the Pentecostal church and evangelical churches

“In this elections, I came to show interest coming from a call from God.” I heard God speak to me that he has called me to bring unity in the body of christ when the overseer, so I took it up as I believe the God will fullfil what he wants with my life. So I am standing as a person obeying the call of God.” When elected, I have a vision for our fellowship, I have to pick it up from where other leaders have brought it.”

Odongo promised to strengthen the structures in the national fellowship and promote eduction.

“Have got a lot of support across the country, so I am hopeful that we continue to preach the gospel once i am elected into office.” I want to strengthen the structures right from national to sub-counties that reach directly to our churches. I want to give support to the sports sector. In my leadership, I want to build fellowship home and have projects in all the regions. I want to promote eduction in the fellowship especially the “Balokole tusome.” I want to encourage sports in the fellowship, we have to identify talents.”

On the issue facing the church about being funded by homosexuality

“We are going to fight homosexuality since as a country our culture is against it. So our pastors should always focus on preaching the gospel and making our own money.”

Odongo who got saved in 1989 thanked the outgoing General Overseer Bishop Joshua Lwere for his contribution towards uniting the church during his leadership.

Apart from Bishop Odongo and Pastor Kyazze, the other aspirants are Leonard Sserwadda from Masaka, Fredrick Ssemazzi (former General Secretary (NFBPC) from Bukasa in Muyenga, Joseph Nsubuga (Current National Mobilizer) from Komamboga Kawempe.

Formed in 1990, NFBPC is a national umbrella network of more than 22,000 mainly Pentecostal churches and para-church organisations. Pastor Simeon Kayiwa was NFBPC first overseer in 1990, who was later replaced by Apostle Mitala in 2003 before Lwere took over.
