The spokesman from the ministry of Gender, labour and Social development, Frank Mugabi urged the government of Uganda to increase on the beneficiaries of the elderly fund.
Mugabi spoke to tye press after the presentation of the report from the Ministry at the NRM Manifesto week and put more emphasis on cutting the elderly age from 80 years to 65 years of age.
Elderly people from the age of 80 years are entitled to receive a 25000 Uganda Shillings from government but we are pleading to the government so that we increase in the number of people recieving that money.
As per now we need like 40BN to cut the starting age down to 75 years or 65 years of age. We are running on a 25BN Uganda Shillings which is for the elderly aged 80 years and above.
Our main focus as the ministry of Gender is to ensure that we can change the livelihoods of the Elderly, disabled and the youth but we have to keep a close watch on the country’s economy so that it grows and we get the funding we need.
